The Torquay potters produced pots decorated with cottages using various techniques; painting with pigments (faience), painting with slips, molding cottage shapes. The pots decorated by painting with slips usually included a motto or saying scribed into the slip (sgraffito).
These finely painted pots were largely "generic" cottages. However, a few named cottages such as Shakespeare's Cottage were produced.
