COTTAGEWARE The Torquay potters produced pots decorated with cottages using various techniques; painting with pigments (faience), painting with slips. molding cottage shapes. The pots decorated by painting with slips and usually included a motto or saying scribed into the slip (sgraffito). Faience Cottages. These finely painted pots were largely "generic" cottages. However, a few named cottages such as Shakespeare's Cottage were produced.
